Pictures and letter-press are meant to form a whole; and shed light on the strange history of the English Romantic Movement. The author attempts to define the spirit of the movement by pursuing certain general themes, for example the Romantics' obsession with Youth; their interest in the realms of the Subconscious and the shadowy world of Sleep; their attitude towards Nature and Love; and the cult of extreme sensations. The Romantic artist was frequently influenced by poetic ideas and images and was usually moved by the same impulses as his literary counterpart." from the Preface. Price clipped.
