About This Item

Dennis Dobson, London, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair Condition/Poor. foreword by Canon L. John Collins, introduction and appendix. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece, showing Julius and Ethel Rosenberg and their two sons. Black coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Plain text dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. in 1953 Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed in America for espionage. Since their arrest in 1950 to the time of their execution they wrote letters to each other, and once their final petition for clemency had been rejected they chose the letters of this book as a fund for their two sons. In the book the Rosenbergs. "... do not argue the justice of the case, nor for revision of this sentence, but make explicit the drama of torn lives and an up rooted family. Here are letters of love and despair written at the portals of death itself." – From the front fold over panel blurb. Softening of the backstrip edges and rubbing to the lower book edges. The major damage has been to the top left-hand corner of the rear panel and the first few pages of the book – moisture affected. Browning of the textblock edges and of the internal text. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. Also quite nasty insect damage to the front and rear fold over panel creases, and front dustwrapper panel. The top left-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel is missing and the effects of moisture application can be seeing, particularly to the verso of the dustwrapper, where bleeding of the book colour is visible please see photograph. Browning, stains and rubs to the dustwrapper as well. Clipping of the dustwrapper, fun fold over, lower right-hand corner. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. (6), 7-191, (1) pages,. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams. Category: Politics & Government; Letters; United States; History.
