Daniel Defoe's Roxana, The Fortunate Mistress or a history of the life and vast variety of fortunes of Mademoiselle de Beliau, afterwards called the Countess de Wintselheim in Germany being the person known by the nome of Lady Roxana in the time of Charles II, with an introduction by James Sutherland and woodcuts by Bernd Kroeber and book design by one of the finest modern book designers Adrian Wilson, whose book designs have been exhibited at Groiler club in New York and at the San Francisco Public Library.Like Wilson, Bernd Kroeber lives in San Fransisco. He studied in Germany and Switzerland. For Roxana Kroeber has made twenty-six woodcut in two colors, and fourteen part-page black and wood cuts. The press work has been performed in Lunenberg, Vermont at the Stienhour Press and has been signed by the illustrator. This is copy # 1477 of 2000 copies. Book is quarter bound in velum over finly printed red patterned boards and has a red printed spine label. The paste downs and fep and lep are bright red. Slip case is as new and book has original tissue wrapper. This is a very fine collectible for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and a good story.
