New York: Christie's FINE. Catalog from Christie's auction on Tuesday 8 November 2005, featuring the 1963 original Lichtenstein original painting titled "In the Car." It sold that night for over $16 million - by far the highest ever paid for a Lichtenstein work. (This record was broken in 2010 when "Ohhh...Alright..." sold for nearly $40 million.) This handsome softcover catalog is in FINE condition - clean and pristine - no markings, no scuffs, tears chips or creases; binding firm. The catalog includes background information about the painting, two essays by Robert Rosenblum ("Roy Lichtenstein and the Realist Revolt" and "In the Car"), a reprint of Donald Judd's review of the 1963 Lichtenstein exhibit at Leo Castelli Gallery, and a 1966 interview with Lichtenstein by David Sylvester. There are also several color reproductions (including one fold-out) and photographs. A wonderful memento of an historic evening. 8 x 11-3/4". 46 pages. Soft Cover. Fine. 4to.
