About This Item

Leipzig: Karl Baedeker, 1904. Sixth Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Small 8vo. [5], vi-l, 1-530 pp. Red publisher's cloth over flexible boards, gilt lettering on the front board and spine; all edges marbled. Publisher's ads on the front endpaper and pastedown, maps on the rear endpaper and pastedown. Two ribbon bookmarks bound in. Text in German. Illustrated with numerous fold-out maps, full-page plans, and folding plans (most of which are in color). Hinrichsen D462. A sharp example of Baedeker's guide to Russia and eastern Asia, this edition published after extensive construction was done on the Trans-Siberian Railroad, which would connect Russia to parts of Central Asia (including what is now Uzbekistan, Iran, and parts of China). This iteration of Baedeker's guide to Russia also discusses the Ukraine, Poland, Finland, and other countries near Russia in great detail. A small abrasion to the title page and a bookplate on the verso of the free front endpaper.
