About This Item

Munchen: In Commission Bei Anton Bstieler / Druck von Hans Schoffl, 1883. Hard Cover. Very Good. 187,[1] pages. 12mo. 3/4 cloth over marbled boards. Frontispiece is image of Grafe Cesare Mattei. Last page is advertisement for Electro-Homoopathie. Text in German. Lightly browned throughout, wear and rubbing to the binding. One small spot of abrasion to last page resulting in minor loss of readability. Hard Cover. The title, loosely translated is "The medical adviser of the electro-homeopathic cure of the explorer Count Cesare Mattei, written at the request of the Count, enriched by his recent experiences and provided with his portraits, by a friend of this healing method" Mattei is credited as the founder of electrohomeopathy. Some accounts we've seen connect traditional electricity (as in medical quackery) with this discipline, but we believe based on our review that this discipline (at least from this book's perspective) deals more with an electric "fluid" which is called electricity (and is more connected with what some might term bio-electricity than the use of electric current in treatment). There appear to be many recipes in the text for various aliments, and they include the use of red, blue, and green "electricity" as part of some of the formulas. An interesting view into a marginal 19th century medicinal practice in Germany.

Scarce, with only one copy listed in OCLC/Worldcat as of this writing.
