The 4th Chess Olympiad, organized by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) and comprising an open and (unofficial) women's tournament, as well as several events designed to promote the game of chess, took place between July 11 and July 26, 1931, in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The 3rd Women's World Chess Championship also took place during the Olympiad. Final result was: 1.USA (Kashdan, Marshall, Dake, Horowitz, H. Steiner), 2.Poland, 3.Czechoslovakia, 4.Yugoslavia, 5.Germany, 6.Latvia, 7.Sweden, 8.Austria, 9.Great Britain, etc., together 19 teams each other on 4 boards. In the Olympiad took part almost 100 players, among them many top players of that time: Aljechin (Alekhine), Bogoljubov, Kashdan, Sultan Khan, Stahlberg, Flohr, Gruenfeld, Rubinstein, Mikenas, Vidmar, Tartakower, Stoltz, Spielmann, Marshall, Yates etc. The Winner of the Woman tournament was Vera Menchik with 100 per cent score (8 points of 8 - 5 players double round robin). The book includes: 329 games of the Olympiad (from ca 680 played), almost all of them are annotated by authors of the book or by other masters. Games are shown round-by round and within rounds match-by-match. Round summaries (always 1-2 pages long). Results of the Olympiad both teams and individuals in detail. All 8 games played by Vera Menchik with her own annotations. Indexes of players, teams and openings. 13 interesting b/w photos. A sample below shows the USA team + Vera Menchik with Mrs. Stevenson.
