About This Item

First edition first printing of author's twelfth mystery featuring Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn. This book was actually a hardcover advance reading copy and comes with paperwork from HarperCollins Canada explaining who to contact to arrange signings for the book. The second letter in the paper work is a note from Tony Hillerman on HarperCollins Canada letter head explaining how delighted he is with this book and how he looks forward to visiting Canada on a promotional tour. It has his signature on the bottom of the letter but I believe this is just a copy that was sent out to a number of booksellers. SIGNED by the author on a decorative book plate that is glued to the blank page opposite the title page. In fine / fine unread condition.

Synopsis

Loaded with e-book extras (not available in the print edition), including Tony Hillerman's running commentary on his work and his series heroes Leaphorn and Chee; plus a special profile of the Navajo nation.Officer Chee attempts to solve two modern murders by deciphering the sacred clown's ancient message to the people of the Tano pueblo.AN ANCIENT TRUST IS BROKENDuring a Tano kachina ceremony something in the antics of the dancing koshare fills the air with tension. Moments later the clown is found brutally bludgeoned in the same manner that a reservation schoolteacher was killed just days before. In true Navajo style, Officer Jim Chee and Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police go back to the beginning to decipher the sacred clown's message to the people of the Tano pueblo. Amid guarded tribal secrets and crooked Indian traders, they find a trail of blood that links a runaway schoolboy, two dead bodies, and the mysterious presence of a sacred artifact.

About Scene of the Crime Books, ABAC, IOBA

My wife and I have been operating Scene of the Crime Books since 1996. In 2004 we attempted to go against the market and open a storefront on Oakville Ontario. In August 2006 we closed the brick and mortar and humbly went back to just internet. We now do internet and appointment only through our home. So if you're in our neighborhood let us know 24 hours ahead of time. Thank you. Don Longmuir
