Three-quarter bound red letter and cloth with five raised bands on the spine and gilt lettering; 818 pp.; richly illustrated. Volume 1 has subtitle: Containing legends of the angels and archangels, the evangelists, the apostles, the doctors of the church, and St. Mary Magdalene, as represented in the fine arts. Volume 2 has subtitle: Containing the patron saints, the martyrs, the early bishops, the hermits, and the warrior saints of Christendom, as represented in the fine arts./ Illustrations are 187 woodcuts and 19 engravings.
