About This Item

New York: Kiggins & Kellogg, Publishers, 1858. Very good.. Early edition of this collection of canine anecdotes, alongside charming illustrations of various dogs. This assemblage of dog stories from US America and England is part of the fourth series of REDFIELD'S TOY BOOKS, the largest and most expensive series - each title cost a whopping six cents. 6'' x 4''. Original pictorial wrappers, saddle-stitched. Six full-page illustrations and three smaller in-text illustrations. 24 pages, with ads to wrappers. Contemporary gift inscription to title page: "Presented to Charlie by / his Aunt Anna. 1858." Contemporary owner's name in a child's hand to inner rear wrapper. Wrapper a bit toned, with a few small spots of soil; beginning to split at spine. Leaves with a couple small spots of soil. Sound and clean overall.
