About This Item

FR/No Dustjacket. 1854. 1/4 Leather. [This copy has Jan. & Feb. penciled in on the March 1854 issue. Indeed the March issue begins on page 325 and ends on page 427. 3 times the normal issues.] 1-427 pages. Bound in 1/2 leather with marbled boards. This copy belonged to H[enry] J. Bunnell [of Waverly] and then to LeRoy D. Farnham of 42 Main St. This monthly contains literary republications like Adventures and experiences of Frances Felton ... poetry, etc. We are grateful for the articles entitled "The Susquehanna Valley: Gleanings from its Indian and Pioneer History". This printed material is the first history of Tioga County area and Owego, NY. Included are articles titled "Village gossip" and "Our Stocking". This copy has a loose manuscript note indicating that the Our Stocking articles are by Senator Platt. Included is a holograph manuscript letter, 2 page, to Dr. L. D. Farnham, Binghamton, NY May 28, 1897 from L. W. Kingman. LeRoy W. Kingman was the publisher of the Owego Gazette and historian of the Owego area [EARLY OWEGO published 1907]. The letter talks about the scarcity of this book. He is aware of only five copies extant including Bunnell's copy. The reason for the scarcity is that any copies not subscribed for burned in a fire. Contents are clean except for 2 pages with pencil marks lining the margins. The covers are broken at the hinges. There are some additional 20th. century newspaper clippings in a separate holder that repeat some of the history that relates to Broome County area. .
