About This Item

New York: Signet - New American Libary, 1976. Stated First Signet Printing, August, 1976; number-line beginning w/17. Signet code E9000 at spine. Beautifully signed by Stephen King at title page: "Stephen King, 5/3/80." Underscored and with line through printed name. Rare early signature contemporaneous with the printing of this title. Very attractive. Signed at the Kubla Khan-ate Convention held May 2-4, 1980 which featured Stephen King, artist Boris Vallejo, and 4E Ackerman. Included are prints on photo paper from signee; one of SK and Vallejo with photo details printed at back; and a glossy photo print of event name tag. Kubla Khan were a series of conventions in Nashville founded by Ken Moore under the auspices of the Middle Tennessee Science Fiction Society. There were thirty conventions in the series from 1973 to 2002 and sci-fi author Andrew Offutt was emcee for all. Glossy pictorial wraps with stylized silver titles and script, some cover, corner, edge wear, rub, crease. Pages very good. Bind intact, square. Eerie and iconic cover design with black wraps and icy blue shadowed cover art of what appears to be black-eyed girl with red droplet falling from lips. Rare, well read signed original and a bone-chilling artifact. From one of the most brilliant imaginations of our time comes 'Salem's Lot. One of Stephen King's true classics, where he offers an interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. In SK's second published novel he describes Salem's Lot as a town first touched by an evil and horrific murder-suicide involving a prominent citizen - and former hitman - named Hubie Marston. And, now overlooked by this empty and terrible house. The village has its collection of small-town secrets and moral corruptions, though, and is finally invaded by a Vampiric plague, starting with the shadowy new owner of the Marston House, Richard Straker, and his familiar, Kurt Barlow. Another new resident, writer Ben Mears who grew up in the town, joins with a local doctor, a teacher, and young Mark Petrie to fight against the town's demise. Salem's Lot knew darkness and the awful, heavy silence of terrifying images grotesquely dancing in and out of the shadows. Stark, white faces, huge, glowing eyes and long, gnarled hands that reached out with lustful insistence. The paralyzing fear of a diabolical corruption and hideous peril more dreadful than death. But, no one in Salem's Lot dared to speak of the high, sweet, evil laughter of a child, and the terrible sucking sounds... 427 pages. Insured post.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Paperback. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.
