Rinehart & Company, New York, 1951. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine Condition/Very Good+. Illustrator: John O'Hara Cosgrave II. Signed by Author. According to Fitgerald's bibliography of the series there was only one printing (number of copies printed unknown) of this book (which she codes as S39). From the blurb on the front flap: "In the nearly thirty little rivers which indent the Massachusetts shore line from Dartmouth up to Cape Ann lies a force which shaped the history of the state itself and much of the history of our country." Two page map of the rivers on the cape between the table of contents and beginning of the text In her bibliography, Fitzgerald notes that Cosgrove, who illustrated three of the books in the series, was "famous for his maritime art" (p. lxvii) Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). Text block is tight and bright with the author's signature on the front free endpaper. Near Fine hardback bound in medium blue cloth over boards with the Rivers of America device embossed on the front cover and the title in gilt on a navy blue field on the spine. Corners are sharp; minimal shelf wear along edges and head and foot of spine. No foxing in this copy. The price-clipped dust jacket is in Very Good+ condition. The top 1/4" of the spine appears to have taken a bump, resulting in some folding and a closed tear at the front fold of the spine. In addition there is a small (1/8") chip at the bottom of the front fold of the spine. The jacket is now protected in an archival Bodart sleeve. Previous bookseller has penciled in some notes at the top of the front free endpaper (above the author's signature). The top page edges are dyed a light blue. The side page edges are unmarked. The bottom edge has a 3/4" by 1/4" stain of some kind. Illustrator: John O'Hara Cosgrave II. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1 lb 3 oz.
