On the front pastedown is the impressively elaborate bookplate, designed by Sidney L. Smith, of the Boston banker Frank Brewer Bemis (1861-1935) who amassed a major collection of American and British literature.Loosely inserted is an original post-card sized watercolour by the author, and initialled by him, showing a three-master in full sail.Contemporary (1904) ownership signature (not Bemis's) on front free endpaper. Endpapers tanned. Very good indeed. In cloth chemise and slipcase of half teal morocco with raised bands and gilt rules, cloth sides.
