About This Item
1690 1ed Salvator Rosa ART Sketches Soldiers Philosophers Engravings Woodcuts
Salvator Rosa was a 17th-century Baroque painter known for his paintings of landscapes and sketches of human poses. The latter were published in numerous art anthologies including this 1685 collection published in Nuremberg. These sketches depict soldiers in battle poses, thinkers and philosophers, and many other professions in curious poses and manners. These particular etchings were some of the most frequently copied and forged prints from this era and still provide a clinic in illustrating human form and emotion.
