Over 100 b/w & duotone Illustrations (chiefly photographs); Pictorial Front Free Endpaper (brown/white). 4to - over 93/4" - 12" tall. Slight wear to head and foot of spine (slight fraying); slight rubbing and browning to covers (cloth; chiefly to edges); previous owner's ink signature and inscription on first preliminary page; slight internal bumping to upper right corners (chiefly to preliminaries); slight internal browning to edges. xii, 101, [1] pages. Pictorial history of the city and environs; particularly notable for the pictures of the 1906 fire (reproduced from the original negatives, taken by Oluf J. Heinemann), as well as reproductions of decorative designs by Mallette Dean. Introductory essay and afterword ("The Poet and the Messenger") by Milton S. Ray; main text by Lewis; biographical sketch of Milton S. Ray by Benjamin P. Kurtz; includes a few bibliographical references. Rocq #10210; one of an unspecified number of copies "published to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of W. S. Ray & Company, predecessor of the Ray Oil Burner Company" (title page verso) by Taylor & Taylor.
