About This Item
At one time sexuality was viewed with dignity, reverence and respect. Written by a medical doctor especially for 'newly-weds and those married for a longer or shorter period who have not gotten on well together sexually!' Dr. Long writes from a Biblical worldview respecting the sanctity of marriage presenting delicate subjects for men and women; detailing normal sex life, the art of love, and giving explicit instructions pertaining to the intimacies of married life. This is the hardback "Authorized Edition," copywritten in 1919, printed in 1937 consisting of 181 pages plus 37 pages on "A Portfolio of Illustrations Which Comprise a Picture Story of Woman's Sexual Life" plus 5 pages of ads. The subtitle states: "Some things that all sane people ought to know about sex nature and sex functioning; its place in the economy of life, its proper training and righteous exercise." This review can be found online: 'Essentially, this is a sex-ed book intended for newlyweds, but it is SO FAR ahead of its time. Keep in mind, the first edition was published at the tail end of the Victorian period. Information about sex was not readily available. "Nice" girls didn't know ANYTHING, and guys were usually misinformed. People simply did not talk about sex, or if they did, it was often put forth (particularly to young women) as being dirty or sinful, but necessary for childbearing. This book lays it all out there. Plain English. Sex within marriage can be a wonderful thing. Not dirty. Not sinful. Not vile. The shock value of this book isn't in the material itself, but in the time period in which it was published.'
