About This Item

Curtis, 1935. Very Good. Collection of 11 vintage large size ("bedsheet" size, or about 10.5 x 13 inches) tabloid-pinup magazines featuring articles, news, celebrity gossip and imagery, with some scandal coverage, sport, film, music, sometimes crosswords or cartoons, and the occasional scantily clad person. The selling point was, generally speaking, the person or situation on the front cover, often a celebrity or model who might also be found in a layout inside. Usually all covers were full-pg photos or illustrations, several by Normal Rockwell. Present issues complete. First printings, stapled softcover 4to, color wrappers. Vintage magazines, fiction, nonfiction, celebrity gossip, media coverage. A broad scope of eye-catching editorials/models. Very Good overall, rubbing, toning, foxing, a few creases, chips, stains or tears, brief pencil or ink on the front, but complete, no loose pages; other conditions noted. 5/11/1935, Leyendecker, addr. label on the front. 9/28/1935, add. label on the front. Vol. 207, No. 50, 6/15/1935, Rex Stout, A. Loomis cover, Booth Tarkington, partial addr. label on the front. 10/27/1945. Vol. 218, No. 39, 3/30/1946, John Atherton cover, Kay Boyle, Luke Short, Budd Schulberg, addr. label on the front. 4/27/1946. Vol. 219, No. 8, 8/24/1946, Albert Staehle cover, Frank O'Rourke, David Goodis, addr. label on the front. 6/1/1957, Jayne Mansfield, addr. label on the front. Norman Rockwell covers Vol. 222, No. 44, 4/29/50, Harold Lamb, Pat Frank, Yogi Berra, Bill Gulick, addr. label on the front. Vol. 236, No. 44, 12/14/1963, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Breslin, Muriel Spark, addr. label on the front. Summer 1971, Wil. Hazlett Upson, Ellery Queen, Cornell Woolrich, Arthur C. Clarke, Thomas Wolfe, Robert Indiana.
