Image of actual book: large hardcover book in good condition. Slight smudge inside page vii. Half vellum over red linen, gold lining and lettering on spine. Housed in sturdy paper-covered cardboard slipcase. Slipcase with rubbing, smudging, and a couple of small nicks. Illustrated with red and black reproductions of paintings by Bagnani. Considered one of the first novels, Petronius details the mishap adventures of Encolpius (the narrator) and Giton, his young male lover. The only other remaining Roman novel is Metamorphoses by Lucius Apuleius. The Monthly Letter of The Limited Editions. 1964. T1.
