A truly superb First American Edition (issued simultaneously with the British edition) of this classic mixology work, the great cocktail book of the jazz age, presumably the second issue without errata slip and the Baccardi cocktail recipe on p. 282 as one of the nine "Additional Cocktails." Crown 8vo (190 x 123mm): [6],7-286,[2]pp, with numerous full color illustrations by Gilbert Rumbold, including several maps of wine regions. Original gold-foil pictorial (Art Deco) boards, black cloth spine lettered in gilt, pictorial end papers. Presented in two parts: Cocktails and Wines, with introduction by "Colette." (Craddock contended every good bartender possessed a solid wine knowledge.) Remarkably Fine and seemingly unread, virtually pristine, square and tightly bound, fresh and bright throughout. Noling, p. 118. Craddock decamped from America to London's Savoy Hotel after Prohibition put a crimp on his career. His bar book was one of the first to not only list drink recipes but also to provide a wine guide. The legendary Savoy opened in 1889; César Ritz was its first manager, and Auguste Escoffier created its fine cuisine. The famous Art Deco steel "Savoy" sign was erected one year before the printing of "The Savoy Cocktail Book," which features 750 of Craddock's popular classics, including the famous Corpse Reviver #2, which he invented, and the Dry Martini, which he popularized.
