About This Item

This pamphlet titled Patrol Squadron Twenty-Two PBM-Mariner Tactics Versus Fighters instructs American pilots in WWII on how to maneuver against enemy fighters. 10.5" x 8" inches. 19 pages. At the time that this description is being written, no copies are recorded in American institutions. OCLC search results are at best an estimate and can vary over time.. This manual primarily comes in the form of a Q&A section and a series of diagrams of maneuvers on how to evade and attack. It was prepared by Lieutenant W.K. Lange of the US Naval Reserve and includes a foreword by him. Covers maneuvers such as jinking, skidding, hummingbird belly shots, and overhead attacks. The audience of this pamphlet would have been pilots of the PBM-Mariner, a patrol bomber that specialized in detecting and sinking submarines in the Pacific Theater. They would continue to be used in Korea and in limited cases up until the mid-1950s until their replacement by the Martin P5M Marlin. The front page of this pamphlet is loose and has a 3" x 2" inch paper loss in bottom left corner, but is overall in good condition.
