London: Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, 1870. FIRST EDITION, 4to, pp. [iv], 49, [1] + 12 tissue-guarded chromolithograph plates. Contemporary calf prize binding, boards bordered with a double gilt rule, front board blocked centrally with mitre design in gilt, spine divided by raised bands, black morocco label, other compartments tooled in gilt, marbled edges. A little spotting, first leaves soiled. Somewhat scratched and rubbed, a touch of wear to extremities. Prize label to pastedown from the Leeds Church School Prize Association to Samuel Linscott for the Advent Examination, 1869.

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association.
