The School of Fontainbleau, Etching and Engravings

The works deals with the activities of the first school of Fontainbleau, from approximately 1531 through to 1584. The changing group of artists were associated with the Château de Fontainbleau and François I but worked more widely in France, bringing Italian mannerism and thereby contributing to the development of Northern Mannerism and influencing the late Renaissance. Their work was a mixture of sophisticated and naive content and technique but brought in also a strong erotic and sensual tone.
