New York: G. P. Putnam & Sons, 1872. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VERY GOOD. FIRST EDITION. Previous owner's name, in pencil, to front endpaper dated 1879. Notations, in pencil, to RPDEP. Corners bumped and worn to cardboard. Spine caps lightly freyed and folded under. Spine and board edges lightly worn. A light 2" raised crease to lower half of spine. One 0.5" light stain to front board with several lighter stains to front and rear boards. Double lined border, in blind to perimeter of boards. Gilt debossed lettering to spine of brown cloth-covered boards. Chocolate brown endpapers. Five tiny dings to front endpapers. 311 pp. Clean and tight. These 12 lectures were delivered, one year previous to book publication, before the Lowell Institution of Boston. "Science and philosophy, starting with certain common ideas, take up each of them distinguishing notions, and, moving along independent lines of inquiry, meet again in religion," (preface).
