Top edge somewhat dust soiled. Vol. 1 Frontis, 32 plates; Vol. 2 Frontis, 39 plates; Vol. 3 Frontis, 30 plates and 2 maps.; Vol. 4 Frontis and 28 plates; Supplementary volume 11 plates. Many of the plates are folding. Binding have a bit of uneven fading but overall present very well. very good The Dictionary of Scientific Biography states this work contains probably all of Huxley's important scientific papers as well a reports of his Royal Institution Friday Evenings Discourses. The volumes are extremely heavily, well illustrated and a major work. This set also contains the scarce supplementary volume issued in 1903. 1898
