Glasgow: Hugh Hopkins, 1869. 2 vols., 8vo, pp. [vi], 288; [vi], 289-575, [1] + engraved frontispiece in each vol. and 5 other engraved plates. Early 20th-century half green crushed morocco, marbled boards, spines lettered in gilt direct, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, marbled endpapers. Some light spotting, particularly to first title-page. Spines sunned to brown, extremities a little rubbed. An attractively-bound copy of the ‘second’ edition of the important collection of Scottish folk songs formed by Joseph Ritson (the first was 1794, another under a different title was published in London in 1866).

About McNaughtan's Bookshop
Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association. We stock rare, antiquarian, and collectable books on all subjects, along with a substantial range of secondhand books for browsing. Our gallery space currently hosts Typewronger Books, offering new books and secondhand typewriters.
