About This Item
Toronto: McClelland and Stewart in association with the Multiculturalism Program, Dept. of the Secretary of State of Canada and the Publishing Centre, Supply and Services Canada, 1976. Book. Very Good. Cloth. First. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. xi, 324pp., index, notes. VG in lightly worn DJ. "The third largest ethnic group in this country, the Scots have spread in all directions across the nation, with the result that their history in Canada, more than that of most ethnic groups, is to a great extent the history of Canada itself. Individual Scots' participation in exploratory expeditions has been traced to the time of Cartier and even to a Viking voyage in 1010, but it was not until the founding of Nova Scotia in the eighteenth century that the first major influx of Scots occurred. This volume brings together the work of thirteen authors - historians, sociologists, literary critics and others - who trace the history of the Scots in fourteen different areas of Canadian life.".
