London: Smith Elder, 1913. Second edition. Hardcover. 2 vols, 633 pp (&) 534 pp., 260 ills., 18 color plts, 6 plts. from sketches by Dr. E.A. Wilson, 8 fold. maps. Orig. navy buckram & gilt title slt. rubbed at extremes (rubbed through in 2 spots on hinge vol 1), minor crease in spine o/w a bright clean copy with some very lt. foxing. The 2nd London edition varies slightly from the first - the 2 full page plates at p. 278 are now placed at p. 274 & 278, and there is a small tipped in slip before the folding map. The account of Scott's ill-fated expedition. This volume draws from Scott's diary as well as other writings, photographs and data found with their bodies in the tent after their heroic but failed attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole.
