New York: Printed for the Booksellers, 1836. 12mo. 145 x 95 mm., [5 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches]. 288 pp. 25 full-page woodcut illustrations, a few on colored paper, plus woodcuts in the text. Publisher's embossed black leather gift book binding; joints cracked yet sound, head of spine chipped; some scattered foxing throughout.Anonymously published book of humor and jokes that appeared to be an Annual Gift Book publication, with edition printed in 1834, 1836 and 1837 according to OCLC. Wood engravings are also anonymous, many offering a moral lesson and others quite dark in their humor. Cut in the style, but without the skill of Thomas Bewick. Not cited in Sinclair Hamilton, Early American Book Illustration or Murrell, History of American Graphic Humor. OCLC cites 8 copies of the 1836 edition.
