Bright yellow endpapers.

A collection of letters which chronicle Bukowski's path through his first days as a poet, through his resignation from the postal service and pursuit of literary success. Bukowski details his days, navigating his pursuit of occupational freedom through a thick veil of his own vices, namely drinking and gambling. Bukowski documents his hard drinking and poverty to editors and fans throughout the early days of his career. In the raw style that he is known for, Bukowski makes no apology for his lifestyle but merely details it as fact. In time, success begins to befall the author, but this does not provide the purity or security that one might expect.
