About This Item

Toronto: S. J. Reginald Saunders, 1945. First Canadian Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 7.75" x 5.25" x 0.75. Bound in dark hunter green publisher's cloth. Covers are plain with gilt lettering within a gilt box on the spine. 160 pp. Dr. Edwin W. Brown owned one of the finest collections in the world of C.S. Lewis and Inklings-related books, and the entire original "Brown Collection" remains at Taylor University. Over the years, many other books were added to this original collection, and they were stamped "Brown Collection", including this book. This does not necessarily indicate previous ownership by Dr. Edwin W. Brown, but simply means that it was owned by Taylor University and was related to the "Brown Collection". Lacking dust jacket. Ex-library, there is a barcode affixed to the back pastedown and stamps mentioned previously, but there is no other library spoor. Unmarked except previous owner's notation on the front flyleaf. Cover shows light wear and corners are bumped. Hinges are strong and binding is sound. A very nice first Canadian edition reading copy. Full refund if not satisfied.

Synopsis

The Screwtape Letters is a work of Christian apologetics by C. S. Lewis, first published in book form in 1942. The story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his nephew, a junior tempter named Wormwood, so as to advise him on methods of securing the damnation of an earthly man, known only as "the Patient. The novel was dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien, and is among one of Lewis' most popular works.
