Rückentitel, 18 Bll., 320, 169, 4 Bll., 126 (2), 14 Bll., 79 S. Vgl. Rogge (Bibl. der Remonstr. geschr.) S. 269. Zum Verfasser: ADB 2, 509 f. - Bertius (1565-1629) Rechtfertigung des Arminianismus und Verteidigung der sogenannten 5 Artikel. Übersetzung von Akten des Haager Religionsgesprächs von 1611 ins Lateinische, die zunächst auf Holländisch publiziert wurden. Bei den im KVK gelisteten Exemplaren in deutschen Bibliotheken fehlt jeweils die Fortsetzung des Appendix (die letzten 79 S.) - Gut erhaltenes Exemplar. Einband nur leicht gebräunt, kaum fleckig. Vorderes Vorsatzblatt (Spiegel) fehlt. Pergament am Rand des Innendeckels teils aufgewölbt. Das rückwärtige Vorsatzblatt vom Innendeckel gelöst, mit kleiner Fehlstelle, Knickspur und ein paar ganz kleinen Anmerkungen von alter Hand. Innen von den Rändern her leicht gebräunt, nur vereinzelt leicht fleckig.

'Op 24 mei 1595 werd een nieuwe universiteitsbibliotheek in gebruik genomen: de hal van de Begijnkerk aan het Rapenburg, schuin tegenover het academiegebouw. Bij die gelegenheid werd de ' Nomenclator' gepresenteerd, de eerste gedrukte catalogus van een Europese instituutsbibliotheek. Vierhonderd jaar na deze public-relations stunt is van dit boekje nu een facsimile-editieverschenen. (...) De originele Nomenclator (...) was voor het functioneren van de bibliotheek niet van belang. De Nomenclator diende een ander doel: hij werd als visitekaartje naar alle windstreken gestuurd om te laten zien: dit zijn wij, de Leidse Universiteit, hier kun je studeren, hier bevindt zich een grote openbare boekverzameling die alle onderwerpen omvat en die voor het geleerde publiek beschikbaar is.' " Latin text to verso describing the succeeding map. The map shows the straits between Northern Russia and Vaygach island, part of the Nova Zembla archipelago. Strap work title cartouche; compass rose, ship and whale to sea. Dark impression; light toning; upper right corner torn. Petrus Bertius, professor of Mathematics at Leiden University, later became Cosmographer and Historiographer to Louis XIII of France. He wrote many works both geographical and theological, contributing geographical material to the works of Clüver and Herrera. Amsterdam, Jodocus Hondius, 1616. Copper engraving, each 9.7 x 13.5 cms, modern hand-colour, Latin text on verso. Dithmarschen in Holstein, flanked by the Eider and the Elbe; from the first edition of Tabularum geographicarum contractarum libri, a geographical work which is normally catalogued under the name of its author, Bertius. The maps are generally reduced from the cartography in the folio Mercator-Hondius atlas, and were mostly engraved by Jodocus Hondius, eldest son of the printer, who also bears the same name. Geoffrey King calls them "undoubtedly the finest set of miniature maps ever printed" (Miniature Antique Maps p. 96). Map
