About This Item
Jerusalem: Keter Publishing House, 1981. First Printing, First Edition Thus. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. This book is a reproduction of the original book, a work of art composed of 52 chapters and 52 paintings (written by Kovner, paintings by Dan Reisinger) exhibited at Beth Hatefuhsoth, the Nahum Goldmann Museum of the Jewish Diaspora, in Tell-Aviv. The pages of the original are considerably larger at 70 x 100 cm. This edition is complete, containing the whole text and all the paintings but reproduced in a size (11 3/4 x 10 1/2 in) and format manageable by the individual. Together, the words, in both English and Hebrew, which must be read from right to left, and the largely abstract paintings, describe Jewish martyrdom and the heroism of the people of Israel from the Destruction of the Temple to the present day. English translation by Shirley Kaufman with Dan Loar. The covers and text show some slight rubbing, o/w clean and unmarked, tight and square; the dustjacket is close to perfect, showing only some very minor edgewear, no tears, no chipping or creasing. A very collectable copy of a book that is itself a work of art.
