Cloth over boards has bumped corners, small discolored areas on back, small tear at bottom of joint between back and spine and a 3/4 inch tear at top of spine. Spine darkened. Edge rubbing all around. Lettering on front is bright gilt; on spine, darkened but visible. ; Fantasy novel that includes some of the aspects of a fable. It was serialized from July to December 1901 in Pearson's Magazine before being published as a volume by Methuen in 1902. This volume is a true first edition as evidenced by the date of July 1902 placed at the start of the catalog of books and announcements following page 301 in text. ; Ex-Library; 7.75" tall ; 301 pages.
