About This Item
1963. CASTILLO, Edmund L. THE SEABEES OF WORLD WAR II. Illustrated With Official Navy Photographs. Foreword by Adm. Ben Morrell. NY: Random House, [1963]. 8vo., pictorial cloth in dust jacket. Landmark Books #103- presumed to be the first edition as many times Landmark titles have no printing statement on the copyright page. The "Can Do" guys, whose ingenuity, bravery and preserverance at various locations around the world, is the subject of this book. Signed presentation from Castillo on verso of the half-title page: "To Vice Admiral William E. Ellis, who made the Sixth Fleet make sense. Edmund L. Castillo. Villefranche- July 16, 1965." Adm. Ellis, a highly-decorated, veteran fighter pilot, was appointed as the new commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet by President Johnson in 1964. Ellis was known as a strict disciplinarian- a "hard charger." Very Good (clean & tight); modest edgewear with short tears d/j. $125.00.
