About This Item

New York: George Routledge & London: Alexander Strahan, 1871. First reprint of the 1868 first . Hardcover. Very Good +. This appears to be the first reprint of the 1868 first American edition. This book comes from the library of Maurice Sendak. Sendak was a prominent author and illustrator of children's books best known for his book "Where the Wild Things Are". He was a recipient of the Hans Christian Anderson Award for his lasting contribution to children's literature. Sendak was a collector of George MacDonald books. Like most of Sendak's books, this copy does not contain Sendak's bookplate but comes with a certificate from the auction firm which establishes the provenance of the book. Green cloth boards with the covers having a blind stamped decoration. Gilt text on the spine. Beveled edges.  624 pp. VG+ with a tight binding and a name in pencil on the title page. Shelley and Son Books specializes in C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien & the Inklings. Full refund if not satisfied.
