London: Cassell and Co. Ltd., 1948-54. [Military history] FIRST EDITIONS. Six volumes. Octavo (22 x 15 x 27cm), pp.xv; 640; pp.xvii; 684; pp.x; 818; pp.xviii; 917; pp.xviii; 673; pp.xviii; 716. With numerous maps and plans, some folding. Publisher's black cloth lettered in gilt to spine; top edges pink, with grey monogrammed endpapers. Each volume with the typographic grey dust-jacket matching the endpapers, priced between 25 and 30s (volume one price clipped). Clean copies with some light spotting to edges, some fading to coloured top edges. Jackets only lightly sunned and handled, with light rubbing and chipping to edges. A bright, near fine set. 'This is not history; this is my case.' The author's most famous work continuing on from his earlier history of the First World War, 'The World Crisis'.
