About This Item

London: William Heinemann, 1911. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's original green cloth decorated in gilt, top edge turquoise. viii, 306, 6 [ads]pp. Very Good, edges foxed, rubbing and soiling to cloth, slight bowing to boards. Lacking the jacket.

Burnett began work on this novel in 1909 while laying out a garden for a new home she was building in Long Island, New York. While she wrote quite a number of books over the course of her career, this is her most enduring work, serving as the basis for a film in 1993 and again in 2020.
