About This Item
London: Frederick Muller LTD, 1961. First Edition. 8vo. 22cm x 15cm. Publisher's vibrant purple cloth boards. Dustjacket. Titled in silver gilt to spine, a very handsome copy, in a clean, bright dustjacket with some very light fading to the spine panel. A very good copy indeed. 256pp. Internally clean, although there is some odd, pale discolouration to the flyleaves that doesn't intrude anywhere else in the book. Top edge stained pink. An interesting and diverse account of the histories and activities of various hermetic societies, extant or otherwise, including the Assassins, the Rosicrucians, Tongs, Mithraic cults, the Carbonari, and a number of others.
