New York: Viking Press, 1952. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition. Original yellow & black cloth covers with red lettering front and spine. The book has clean covers, very minor rubbing tips corners, old gift inscription and bookplates on FFEP otherwise no owner writing or marks on any pages, solid binding, no foxing. The original dust jacket has 2cm deep loss around top spine, 3cm deep loss lower rear, edge rubbing. The book measures 240mm tall x 155mm, and has 306 pages, 60 b/w photos, 2 EP maps, bibliography, index. PHOTO IS OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.

Synopsis

Fosco Maraini was born in Florence in 1912. An anthropologist by training, after his first visit to Tibet he was trapped in Japan by the outbreak of war, and taught in the University of Kyoto until interned. In addition to his writing he has been a broadcaster, documentary film-maker, and professor at the University of Florence. From 1959 to 1964 he was Fellow at St Antony’s College, Oxford.
