About This Item
Hutchinson, nd [1937] 1937. 1st Edition. Hardcover. 1st Edition,1st Impression. 12.55 x 18cm. Publisher's red cloth boards with black titles to spine and front cover. 288pp [viii] adverts 40pp publisher's catalogue dated Spring 1937, Early Spring List. Front and rear Ethiopia map endpapers designed by Joan & Dennis Wheatley and Diana Younger. With publisher's original dust jacket priced at 7/6. Inscribed and signed by the author to the title page. The boards and spine are clean and fresh, with sharp clear titles, noting a tiny bump to the bottom corner of the front cover. There is a little light spotting to the fore and bottom edges. The binding is tight and square. Internally, there is no owner name or bookplate, just the inscription on the title page: "For Mr W Wolpert, with the best of good wishes from Dennis Wheatley". The scarce dust jacket creasing with associated closed tears and small chips along both top and bottom edges, loss to the spine head and to a much lesser extent, the foot of the spine panel, rubbed loss to all corners and rubbing to spine shoulders - the upper joint with two rubbed through 3mm holes - and fore edges. There are also small areas of surface paper loss. Despite this, the jacket presents very well in it's removable protective cover and overall, is a very good copy. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.
