About This Item
London: R. Ackermann. Printed by J. Diggens, 1816. First Edition. Half Calf. Very Good. Imperial 8vo, 10 by 7 inches, 26 by 18 cm. [8], 159 pp. With 76 hand-colored plates, five of which are larger fold-outs. Tooley 361. Abbey Scenery 217. With Papworth's name on title page, which is scarcer than copies without his name so appearing. Majority of plates are aquatints, with a few line-engravings with or without aquatinted sky, but all are hand-colored. Most plates are without signatures or imprints, but a few credit A. Pugin and others. Surely one of the finest, and most pleasing, glimpses of Regency London and its landmarks. Olive calf heavily scuffed, rubbed. Wear to marble paper pastedown. Some starting to front joint but binding still firm. Pages age toned but mostly clean, with some light scattered soiling and/or foxing. Offsetting minimal.
