William Vilas was an American politician who served in the United States Senate for the state of Wisconsin from 1891 to 1897. He was a also a Professor of Law at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a regent of the University, a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, and Postmaster General, and Secretary of the Interior under Grover Cleveland. This volume was prepared after his death for private printing. Contains 12 addresses. # 44 of 100. Large octavo. Brown leather-covered boards with gilt title to front cover and spine, and gilt edging to front and back covers. Cover is heavily scraped at top of front and back covers, and somewhat on spine, with leather worn off at corners. Free front end papers are detached. Pages are bright and clean, with a little browning. 254 pages. AMHIST/082422.
