About This Item
New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1944. viii, (2), 102 pages. First printing. Signed and inscribed: "To Mae Mayhew with sincere regards. Robert Penn Warren. January 1945." Ms Mayhew was a student in English 120 (Poetry), an extension course taught by Warren at the University of Minnesota. Her grade report (she got an A!) is taped to the front pastedown endpaper, adjacent to the inscription on the free endpaper. The book is in about very good condition: generally clean and tight; water stain limited to area at bottom of front cover; small ink stain near fore-edge of front free endpaper. The dust jacket has survived, but with extensive edgewear and relatively shallow chipping along the top edge; water staining at bottom of front panel; expected fading of green background. It looks much better now that it is in a Brodart polyester cover.. SIGNED. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible-Very Good-/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
