Top edge red has minor soiling discoloration toward spine end.. 1 Tan cloth over boards. Red, black, and gold decorated spine title box. Series identifying scroll "CC" in gold over red, oval frame, front. Fiction and poetry collection of works by Bret Harte. At age 15 in 1854, Harte journeyed from Albany NY to San Francisco CA. The California of the 1850s and 1860s became fodder for his writings, which came in a flurry over just a few years. Teaching school and editing a newspaper became his life, more than fiction and poetry. But the influence was strong on his youthful years as more a spectator than participant in the changing frontier of that state. His writings have endured: 22 stories, including "The Outcasts of Poker Flat, " and 21 poems are herein.
