The anthology's contributors also include a who's who of contemporary environmental writing: Barry Lopez, Mary Oliver, Pattiann Rogers, Edward Hoagland, Ian Frazier, Pico Iyer, Kathleen Dean Moore, Rick Bass, William Stafford, David James Duncan, Paul Hawken, and many others. Gordon was a professor of theology at the University of Portland, and thus a close colleague of Doyle, who died of brain cancer in 2017, the year after the publication of this volume.
