First edition, first issue with "6G/8/'96" on publisher's list in rear. viii, 452pp., 4pp. of advertisements and 16 page publisher's catalog at the rear. Original publisher's purple cloth, gilt-stamped spine, top edge gilt. Very good with gutter cracked before Chapter 1, spine faded, spine head chipped. William Crampton's copy with his decorative bookplate on front pastedown designed by ELM. Crampton was an ardent book collector in the late Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries.
