About This Item

Lippincott, 1960. First edition thus. Pamphlet, staple bound, unnumbered. 17.5 x 12.5 cm. Graphic wraps have very light toning around the edges. Otherwise in very good condition.

Short story privately printed by Lippincott Co. and gifted. Ownership signature on title page. A surreal short story about angels, and Baudelaire, set in Africa, a continent that Spark traveled through and lived in during her married life, and a place she wrestled with, she ridicules the racism of colonial characters, and yet it also upholds colonial attitudes in parts. The story helped launch her literary career.
