Third Edition. 4 volumes in 3. xxiv, 398; vii, 392; vii, 434, [18] pp. Full brown calf with black title labels, gilt lines and lettering to spines; all edges speckled. Wear to spine ends, joints and corners. Minor offsetting and occasional spots, but generally internally clean. Carter and Talbot were members of the Blue Stockings Circle, an informal women's social and educational movement in England in the mid-18th century that emphasised education and mutual cooperation founded by Elizabeth Montagu; notable members included Horace Walpole, Samuel Johnson, Anna Laetitia Barbauld, Mary Wollstonecraft, and many more. Their correspondence shows an interest in public affairs, observation of men and manners, and affection for her friends. This is a heavy set and may require additional postage if being shipped outside of Europe. . Very Good. Full Calf. Third Edition. 1819.

Prices are in sterling, and are subject to availability. We can accept bank transfers in Sterling, Euros, US and AUS dollars. We ship priority shipping as standard, and pack our books well. Courier services available. We are also able to offer same day delivery within London postcodes for some orders - ask for a quote. Valuable items will be sent via registered airmail or one of the courier services. Large orders can be sent via consolidation, which reduces the cost per book. In the unlikely event of an incorrect description, a full refund will be provided, but please e-mail/telephone first, and within seven days of receipt of the book.
