New York: Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, n. d. (ca 1933)., 1933. First edition. Later printing. Author's first book. Inked gift inscription on the half title page and the stamp of the Baldpate Inn, Estes Park, Colo. Inscription says "To the B. H. Hendersons / Welcome is always / dripping from the / Seven Keys to Baldpate / Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mace / August 3, 1947." Mr. and Mrs. Mace were the owners of the Baldpate Inn. located in Estes Park, Colorado. Encyclopedia of Mystery & Detection says, "A writer makes a $5,000.00 bet that he can finish a story in twenty four hours at haunted, deserted Baldpate Inn, which to his confusion, he finds cluttered with eccentric...and criminal... strangers." This story was adapted into a long-running Broadway play in 1913 by George M. Cohan, who also starred in the play. It has been adapted several times for the screen. Fine, bright copy in a bright, colorful dust jacket with wear to the spine ends, corners and extremities. A nice association copy.
